How are we blessed? Let me count the ways. Our eyes opened to give us another day. What a blessing. We are loved. What a blessing. While so many are homeless and living on the streets, we have a roof over our head. What a blessing. While so many suffer from hunger, we have food on the table. What a blessing. While so many are sick, ailing, and dyeing, we have our health. What a blessing. Yes my friends, for all the things we like to complain about, we really have nothing to complain about when we put it into perspective. Truly blessed are we.
Be grateful for what you have and who you have in your life. It’s not about keeping up with the Jones’s. You are given what you need and everything else is just a want. In a world where no matter how little you think you have, there are so many more that have so much less than you. So don’t compare your life to the lives of others. Don’t keep wishing your life away by wishing you had more, or wishing you had a better job, or wishing you had a better home, or a better car. Those things are all wants and not needs. Just be grateful for what you have. It could always be worse.
If we think in terms of you get what you give, then why wouldn’t we all want to be kind, thoughtful, giving, loving, and happy? We should all want to do this. Think about what a wonderful world this would be if we were all generous and giving of ourselves. Giving doesn’t have to be monetary in nature. Some people can’t afford to do that, but they can give in other ways. Volunteer, or bake some cookies for your friends or co workers. Just do what you can to be a good human being. It will all come back to you in time.
Get up every single day and acknowledge all that you have to be grateful for. The job that provides for your family. Your health. The roof over your head and the food on your table. Oh sure, you may not have a lot of material things, but that’s not what’s important in this life. It’s not a game of he who dies with the most toys wins. You can’t take your toys or your money with you. Be grateful instead for the people who love and support you. They do it unconditionally. Be grateful for those that lift you up when you’re down. The people in your lives are the most important thing there is. Get up every day and give thanks for all of them. For they are the wings that lift you up.
The things we have are not the things we should be grateful for. All the intangibles in our lives are the things we should be grateful for. All the little things we know are there, but that we cannot touch. Things that we can feel in our hearts and souls. We can’t see it but it touches us in unexplained ways. Those are the things we should be grateful for.
